Portraits
Unbothered, 2020
Unbothered is a pencil portrait of a stranger — expression unreadable, presence undeniable.
Low REs, 2019
Low Res is a colored pencil portrait in which the subject's face is shrouded by tessellation — the handmade and the digital in quiet conflict.
Portraits
Fallin’, 2019
Fallin' is an acrylic portrait of Alicia Keys — a tribute to an artist whose voice and piano have defined a generation. Cool, grounded, blue.
PORTRAIT OF MY BROTHER, 2018
Portrait of my Brother, is a 30" × 30" mixed media portrait — alcohol marker, colored pencil, and ink on mounted paper — of my oldest brother, my built-in best friend. It won Best in Show at the Blue Ridge Community College Art Show in 2018.
Study of lupita, 2018
Study of Lupita is an oil portrait of Lupita Nyong'o painted as a color study — her eyes rendered in gold, bold and deliberate.
Lady X, 2017
Lady X is a contemporary portrait of Lady K'abal Xook, an 8th-century Maya queen whose bloodletting ritual was carved into stone at Yaxchilán — an act of sacred and political power. I painted her in the aftermath: calm, modern, recognizable. The distance between her world and ours is smaller than it looks.
